Ever wonder what a $32 burger looks like?
Posted in Good Eats, NYC on 12/19/2008 03:20 pm by danaI was pretty bummed that I had to leave my office today for a lunch meeting. However, when I got to the restaurant where the meeting was taking place, I realized that my hard work of trekking through the snow and sleet was totally worth it: on the menu was a $32 burger. How I managed to not do enough research to know beforehand that I was going to the home of Manhattan’s most expensive hamburger is a complete mystery.
What makes a burger worth $32 clams? Well, for starters, it’s made by Daniel Boulud who is famous for several fancy French restaurants. But second (and probably the real reason) is that it’s a sirloin burger that is filled with short ribs, black truffle, and foie gras (which I usually try to avoid) and it’s served on a parmesan bun. Yum.
I should point out that the $32 burger is actually not the aforementioned most expensive burger in NYC; for $75 you can have the burger mentioned above with 10 grams of shaved black truffles on top; and for $150, you can have it with 20 grams of black truffles. And that’s the most expensive burger you can get in Manhattan (although not the most expensive in the world).
So how was it? Well obviously it was delicious. It was a lot of different flavors though, and I couldn’t really taste the truffle too much. The pommes-frites were fantastic. But as far as burgers go, I think Mellon’s continues to hold the #1 spot in my book, with Five Guys a very close second.
