After waking up around 9:30 (a brutal 4:30 NY time…) we headed out to have lunch (a Sunday roast) at The Albion very cute little Georgian-era pub about a 20 minute walk from Whitney and Michael’s flat. The place was absolutely perfect – it had a great brick exterior, a wonderful fire going on the inside, and excellent mulled wine. Whit and I had the roast beef, and Taylor and Michael had roast pork belly. We finished off with sticky toffee pudding, and a chocolate plate.

After lunch, we took a nearly 4 mile walk around the Regent’s Canal from Caledonian Road to Camden Lock and finally to Little Venice. There are these really narrow and super cute canal boats that go up and down the canal, and navigate their way through several locks. It’s a really beautiful walk, and there are great things to look at along the way, including Banksy graffiti, the Blow Up Bridge (which blew up after a boat carrying gun powder hit against the top of it) and the beautiful homes in Regent Park. It was great to walk around and do some exploring (see pictures below).

And then we made it back to Whitney and Michael’s flat to eat some pastis and play some Wii! More tomorrow!

September 19 every year is a very special day: International Talk Like a Pirate Day! You may be asking yourself two questions, which I will endeavor to answer in the likely order that you thought them.

(Q) Why is there an International Talk Like a Pirate Day?
(A) Because there arrrr. Seriously, probably just because pirates rule and pirate lingo rules even more.

(Q) How do Cap’n Brit Cannonbait (Dana) & Cap’n Benjamin Bloodbeard (Taylor) plan to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day??
Obviously, first by figuring out our pirate names! Other activities may include: printing out some eye patches, potentially making a canon at work, printing out some decorative workplace signs, downloading this sweet app for our ayePhones…oh and we’re going to the Yankees game tonight. Happy TLAP day matey!

Summer Fridays have finally gone into effect!! Yipee! I like Summer Fridays because (a) we get to leave at 1PM and (b) I wear flip-flops in the office all day (it’s my own little way of expressing the fact that I am only here temporarily on Fridays). The good news is that I finished the project that I was working on, so I can actually leave at 1 (and take advantage of a lunch special somewhere…reason (c) that I heart Summer Fridays).

In other news, we signed a lease on a new apartment in JC this week! We’ll do most of our moving over next weekend’s long weekend, so if when you here “independence day” you think “carrying-boxes-up-two-flights-of-stairs-in-steamy-July” then give me a bell. Happy Summer Friday!

This week has felt like two-weeks-for-the-price-of-one.

I have some theories about why…but at the core of them is the fact that way too much has been packed into the last few days! Just a few: I had class two nights this week (rather than my usual one), I had to go do field research last Saturday and again tomorrow (when I’ll spend my day counting bi-valve colonies in a wetland in Queens…in the rain…), and also seeing the This American Life movie last night (yes, “that show where those hipster know-it-alls talk about how fascinating ordinary people are”) – which was, by the way, really great. Or maybe it’s all of the sugar and delicious vegan cake that I’ve eaten this week (vegan oreo cake was definitely the best birthday cake yet).

My week definitely got off to an amazing start with the pasta tasting menu (paired with wines) at Babbo…if only all weeks could start that way! We’re hoping to write a long post about each course if we ever get around to it…the short of it is: add that meal to your list of must-dos. We (shockingly) didn’t take any pictures, so hopefully our verbal expertise will allow us to recreate the meal.

At any rate, there’s always a feeling of accomplishment when you make it to 4:30 after a long week…which is why I’m writing this post. Happy Friday!
